It was a Friday evening in July.
After more than 10 hours on the train across Germany, I have finally reached my destination! I quickly approach the beach in Warnemünde. I walk barefoot through the soft sand to the water. Walking in the sand, hearing the sound of the waves and feeling the wind - those are the feelings
I had almost forgotten what it felt like.
But here I was! I was at the Baltic Sea!
I was greeted by wonderful waves on the beach, their foothills gently lapping at my feet. Sometimes not quite so gently.
I had arrived at exactly the right time.
The sun began its descent towards the horizon.
Along the way, it made the sky glow in the most glorious colors. I tried to capture this moment with my camera.
The mighty waves impressed me. It was a wonderful spectacle that I watched for what felt like an eternity. It was a great start to the rest day and my short vacation!
I realized that I wanted to try to put some of my photos on canvas with acrylic. It wasn't long before an opportunity presented itself. I showed a few friends the photos from my vacation. I realized that one of them had always dreamed of trying sailing. As her birthday was not far off and another friend wanted to give her a painting of mine, this was the perfect opportunity. I found out about her Favorite Bible verse and also had an idea which of my photos she liked the most.
So I got down to work without further ado. And I failed. I failed because of the beautiful, large wave. I often painted over parts of the picture and started all over again. It was a struggle. But with a little perseverance, I was able to emerge victorious. I don't think I did the original justice.
But the recipient was at a loss for words for a few moments when we handed her the picture.

Even if it is imperfect, it expresses the longing for the open, wide sea.
„Delight yourself in the LORD; he will give you what your heart desires. Commit your way to the LORD and hope in him; he will do it well.“
The Bible text from the Psalms is beautiful. It teaches us to make God our top priority in life. If we are connected to him and trust him, he will lead us safely. Even if we sometimes don't see it or understand it, he acts for our good. He knows the deepest longings in our hearts and delights in giving them to us if we always put him first in our lives.
So I can look back with gratitude on a wonderful short sailing vacation. I will remember this one Friday evening in particular!
